I am shadowing for the day as part of the California Youth Connection (CYC)'s "Foster Youth Job Shadow Day." I am participating in the program as a former foster youth because I believe I can use my voice for policy, legislative and practice change in the foster care system.

Hi! My name is Jasmine, and I had the great opportunity to shadow Asm. McCarty yesterday for California Youth Connection (CYC)'s "Foster Youth Shadow Day."

I believe that I can draw from my experience as a former foster care youth to create #FosterPower and #FosterStability for the young people behind me. All young people need stable, love-filled lives, and I am grateful to learn more about the legislative process that can help make that a reality.

Today marked the end of my 10th Annual Mother's Day Donation Drive benefiting Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. Thanks to everyone who helped us gather diapers, clothes, toys, strollers and more to help families. A special thank you to the many donation sites and the Yuba College Associate Degree Nursing Program for leading the parent education stations! Also thank you to our top helpers: #MsBecky & Coloma Center Tiny Tots Preschool and CASA de ESPAÑOL.

Quite an honor to address the Lincoln Law School of Sacramento 2018 Graduates and receive an honorary degree. I spoke about the legacy of Lincoln Law School serving unconventional law students and future lawyers, as Abe Lincoln was 175 years ago.

I also focused on my later mother Barbara J. McCarty, a 1983 Lincoln Law School graduate and her unconventional but successful journey. I know she would be smiling.

And congrats 2018 Valedictorian, Heather Nadine Temple!
