(Oxnard, CA) – Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D- Sacramento), Chairman of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee 2 Education Finance, conducted a special field hearing with Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin (D-Thousand Oaks) at Oxnard College to announce and discuss the release of $60-million in grant money to increase basic English and math skills for community college students. The legislation authorizing the grant funding was written by Assemblymember Irwin. “We know that about 75-percent of our entering students need some remedial education,” said Chairman McCarty.
