Sacramento Leader’s Statement on Tower Bridge Proposal

Statement from Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D – Sacramento) and Senator Dr. Richard Pan (D – Sacramento) on Governor’s veto of Tower Bridge proposal:

Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D – Sacramento):

“Although I’m disappointed in the Governor’s veto of the Tower Bridge relinquishment proposal, I am very confident that the actual transfer-with funding-will still occur.  The Governor’s commitment to direct Caltrans to work with the cities of Sacramento and West Sacramento on a funding and policy plan sets up a framework for a successful resolution.”

Senator Dr. Richard Pan (D – Sacramento):

“As a major employer and participant in the Sacramento region’s economy, California State government should be investing in building a strong Sacramento.  Today the Governor approved policy regarding the relinquishment of the Tower Bridge.  This is a good first step in making sure State government is a good steward and partner with the Sacramento region. I am confident that we will come to an agreement that helps promote a thriving downtown economy that is good for the entire region.”

Assemblymember McCarty’s Preschool for All Act Promotes Off Assembly Floor

Bill Would Expand Access to All Eligible Kids

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, the Assembly passed Assembly Bill (AB) 47, the Preschool for Act (Kevin McCarty, D-Sacramento) on a bi-partisan vote.  This measure requires the state to provide funding for all children who are eligible for the state preschool program, and whose parents wish to enroll them, with the opportunity to enroll in the program.

“We can’t afford to not cover all children, regardless of their economic status for preschool,” said Assemblymember McCarty.  “AB 47 bill will ensure that we keep the promise made to our preschoolers last year and provide each of our low-income children access to preschool. We owe it to our children and we owe it to the families across California, to ensure that children are ready to start school and be successful.”

Assemblymember McCarty’s Statement on Governor’s May Revise

Statement from Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D – Sacramento) Chair of Budget Sub- Committee 2 on Education Finance, regarding Governor’s May Revise:

"The Governor's revised budget provides a good starting point as we begin our final budget negotiations.  Strong revenues project our state's economic stability and an opportunity to address poverty by establishing an earned income tax credit for the working poor.  While I welcome the Governor’s plan to maintain access and affordability in the University of California, I believe we can do better, to rightly focus the UC in adopting additional efficiencies to address long term costs.  As we begin to finalize our budget in the next month, we look forward to working with the Governor on increasing opportunities with investments in child care and state preschool. "
