The package, includes three pieces of legislation, each designed to make high-quality preschool programs universally accessible for 3 and 4-year-old children across California.

California to End For-Profit Charter Schools

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Governor Jerry Brown today signed AB 406 into law by Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento), which will prohibit for-profit corporations from managing and operating charter schools in the Golden State.

California Legislators Double Down on Community College Promise by Introducing Measure to Make Associate Degrees Free for All Students

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – As the initial wave of first-time, full-time students begin their newly-free classes at community colleges across California, Assembly leaders debuted a measure stating the legislature’s intent to waive fees for all in-state students’ second academic year.  In doing so, an Associate Degree would effectively become free for all students in California.

California Legislature Approves McCarty Measure to Ban For-Profit Charter Schools

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – The California State Legislature today approved AB 406 by Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento), which would prohibit for-profit corporations from managing and operating charter schools in the Golden State. This bipartisan measure was approved by the State Senate on a 28 to 7 vote and by the State Assembly on a 49 to 15 vote.

Assemblymember McCarty Applauds Multi-Million Dollar Transportation Investment in Sacramento County

California Transportation Commission’s awarded Sacramento County over $110 million in funding to make generational investments in the region’s transportation infrastructure. Financed by the recent passage of SB 1, which provides $5 billion in annual funding for statewide transportation needs, this transportation infrastructure investment will reduce congestion, improve air quality, promote transit and create thousands of jobs in the greater Sacramento region.
