Greetings from Maggy Krell

Hello Assembly District 6 Constituents,
I was sworn in as your Assemblymember in December. I feel lucky and grateful to represent Assembly District 6, which encompasses most of the city of Sacramento, as well as Rio Linda, Antelope, Arden-Arcade, Carmichael, Elverta and La Riviera.
As your Assemblymember, I am focused on bringing resources to the Sacramento region and working hard to advance legislation that makes progress on reducing the cost of living, improves public safety, and addresses homelessness. I’m also committed to continuing the work I did before joining the Legislature. As Planned Parenthood’s chief legal counsel, I defended access to reproductive healthcare in California and as Deputy Attorney General, I led our state’s efforts to prosecute sex traffickers and protect and uplift survivors.
While it's only been a couple of months, I wanted to share what we have been working on:
Legislative Update
Healthcare Access and Affordability
- Protecting Access to Medication Abortion
On my first day in office, I introduced Assembly Bill 54, which will ensure that medication abortion is accessible and affordable for patients in California.
ICYMI: Interview on Capital Public Radio discussing other legislative priorities
- Wheelchair Affordability
Repairing powered wheelchairs should be covered without unaffordable copays. We are working on reducing out-of-pocket costs for accessing essential healthcare needs like this.
Homelessness and Mental Health
- AB 348: Streamlining Access to Treatment for Severely Mentally Ill and Homeless Individuals
For people with severe mental illness or substance use disorders, timely access to comprehensive care can make all the difference in setting them on the path to long-term stability and recovery. This bill streamlines the process for those experiencing homelessness or transitioning out of incarceration or involuntary hospitalization to be admitted to Full Service Partnership Programs by providing presumptive eligibility for them to receive comprehensive treatment through the state’s Proposition 1 investment. - AB 416: Empowering Emergency Physicians to Improve Crisis Response
This bill empowers emergency department physicians to authorize 5150 holds on patients suffering from severe mental illness and in crisis.
Protecting Youth
- AB 316: Ensuring Accountability for Harms Caused by Artificial Intelligence (AI)
The harmful impact of social media on young people is well-documented. Yet, social media companies continue to use artificial intelligence to push addictive algorithms on kids, exacerbating serious health and safety risks, from eating disorders, exposure to sexual abuse material, self-harm and even suicide. When AI causes harm, someone -- not an algorithm -- should be held accountable.
Human Trafficking
Despite the significant strides we’ve made, human trafficking remains rampant in California, causing deep harm to victims and communities throughout our state including here in Sacramento.
We plan to introduce legislation to both support victims and survivors and assist law enforcement in preventing human trafficking.
Assemblywoman Maggy Krell with Sacramento District Attorney and California Department of Justice announcing a joint regional taskforce to combat human trafficking
Last month, I hosted a policy roundtable led by survivors, to discuss concrete ways the legislature can improve California’s response to human trafficking.
We also presented a resolution and honored dozens of survivor leaders from across the state on the Assembly floor.

Community at the Capitol
One of my favorite parts of being your Assemblywoman is contributing directly to our community -- including through service and honoring the achievements of community members.
It was a treat to host the Grant Union High School Pacers football team at the Capitol to celebrate their recent state championship win! These young men showed grit, determination and hard work and have made Sacramento so proud!

My team and I spent Martin Luther King. Jr. weekend cleaning up Winner’s Circle Park.
Women’s Empowerment Clothing Drive
February 5th to 18th, my office is hosting a clothing drive for Women’s Empowerment, a Sacramento non-profit that supports homeless women. They offer job training, professional development, and provide essential items like clothes, shoes, and toiletries. We’re collecting professional clothing (blazers, blouses, slacks, shoes, etc.) and travel-size toiletries. Drop-off locations are: 1021 O St, Suite 5230 and 915 L St, Suite 110, Sacramento. We also look forward to helping with job interview prep!

Our office is open! We welcome you to visit us at the Capitol or in the community. We look forward to seeing you.
