EDD Assistance
Federal workers who have been laid off, are out of work due to circumstances beyond their control, or have been affected by the government shutdown may qualify for unemployment benefits. It is important to note that excepted employees who are still working but not being paid are not considered unemployed and as such do not qualify for unemployment benefits.
- Standard unemployment eligibility requirements apply.
- When applying for benefits, federal employees should have Standard Form 8 (SF8) and Standard Form 50 (SF50) on hand, both of which are received from your employer.
- Private sector employees who contracted with the federal government and lost their job through no fault of their own may also be eligible.
Applications can be submitted online through myEDD, via phone by calling the dedicated federal worker line at 1-855-327-7055 between 8am-5pm, or mailing a filled out Unemployment Insurance Application for Federal Employees, which can be found on the EDD website, to the address on that same form.
