Governor signs bills to streamline behavioral health care access for vulnerable populations

SACRAMENTO – Assemblywoman Maggy Krell (D-Sacramento) welcomed the Governor’s signing of Assembly Bill 348 and AB 416, her bills that will streamline access to behavioral healthcare for patients in need. AB 348 will streamline the process for those experiencing homelessness or transitioning out of incarceration or involuntary hospitalization to be admitted to Full Service Partnership programs. AB 416 will help speed up the initiation of specialized care for emergency room patients experiencing a severe mental health crisis by allowing emergency physicians to write 5150 holds. Assemblywoman Krell said,

“Timely access to comprehensive care can make all the difference for those suffering from severe mental illness or substance use disorders. AB 348 and AB 416 will help especially vulnerable populations get the care they need, when they need it, by streamlining access to care. Thank you to the Governor for signing and to the sponsors of these bills.”
