Concussion Management Measure Moves Forward

Dr. Benet Omalu testifies to promote safe youth sports

(SACRAMENTO, CA)- The Assembly Committee on Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism and Internet Media passed Assembly Bill (AB) 2007 (McCarty, D-Sacramento) today, on a vote of 5 to 0. The Concussion Management Youth Sports Act would help protect youth sports participants from injury by requiring the same protocol to be observed as those in place for high school athletes.

Statement on the Suspension of Chancellor Katehi

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – This morning, Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento), Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance, issued the following statement regarding the suspension of UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi:

"UC Davis has long been known for rigorous academics, world class research, an innovative medical center in Sacramento, and an active student body. But now it is time to turn the page with Chancellor Katehi and move forward."

Assemblymember McCarty A Step Closer To Making Campuses Tobacco Free

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – The Assembly today passed Assembly Bill (AB) 1594, Tobacco/ Smoke Free Public Postsecondary Campuses (McCarty, D-Sacramento) with bipartisan support on a vote of 48 to 24. This bill would prohibit any person from smoking or using any tobacco product, including e-cigarettes, on any of the California Community College (CCC), and California State University (CSU) campuses by 2018.
