SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D – Sacramento) is pleased to announce the City of Sacramento’s receipt of $2,500,000 from the Department of Water Resources (DWR) Water-Energy Grant Program for projects to reduce water use, energy use, and greenhouse gas emissions.
“In the fourth year of a severe drought, it is of critical importance that our community received this funding,” said Assemblymember Kevin McCarty. “Given that many Californians are taking steps to conserve water, it’s important we encourage and reward their efforts through these programs.”
DWR rewarded $2,500,000 to the City of Sacramento for a proposed project through the Department of Utilities: District Metered Areas (DMAs) for Water Loss Control. The project will focus on the conservation of water and energy through various methods. Annual water audits will provide water savings in gallons to ensure our efforts to save are efficient. Also, the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) will allow for leaks to be detected in order to prevent water loss through side leaks.
Overall, DWR awarded $28 million in grants to 22 entities for 25 different projects around the state of California. The maximum grant award was $2.5 million per proposal and $5 million per applicant. The funding for the grants was appropriated from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund.
Local agencies, joint powers authorities, and nonprofit organizations are all eligible to apply to receive grants through the Water-Energy Grant Program. Eligible proposals are required to be residential, commercial, or institutional and do all three of the following: reduce water use, reduce energy use, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
