(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Statement on the University of California (UC) admissions numbers for 2016-17 from Assemblymember Kevin McCarty, Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance:
“Preliminary UC admissions are good news for Californians, and in accord with our 2015-16 budget, which focused on expanded in-state enrollment. Also of positive note are increases from underrepresented minority groups, specifically for Latinos and African American students. However there is still a lot of work to be done. For too many years, we’ve seen the impact of rationed UC access for California students. We look forward to pending UC Regents non-resident student policy, which will set a cap for out-of-state students. Lastly, we’re optimistic the upcoming budget year will give us another opportunity to re-invest in higher education.”
