SACRAMENTO - Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D- Sacramento) and the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services (SFBFS) will kick off Mother’s Day weekend by highlighting the work of SFBFS’s Parent Education Program and announcing the results of McCarty’s Mother’s Day donation drive. The event will take place on Thursday, May 11 at 11:00 AM at the SFBFS offices in the Oak Park neighborhood of Sacramento.
Over the past three weeks, Assemblymember McCarty encouraged the community to donate supplies such as new or gently used baby clothing, educational games, baby food, diapers, books, strollers, toiletries and other supplies to the SFBFS in order to help local families in need. Now in its ninth year, McCarty began this annual donation drive after the birth of his twin daughters, Barbara and Victoria as a way to support mothers in the greater Sacramento area and to memorialize the passing of his late mother, Barbara.
SFBFS’ Parent Education program guides and empowers parents to give their children a bright and happy future. Participants enroll in free educational classes including car seat safety, preparing healthy snacks on a budget and using positive discipline. Upon completion of the courses, parents earn credits, which can be used to shop at the SFBFS boutique for clothing, food, diapers and other items for new parents.
