(SACRAMENTO, CA) –Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento) has named the organization Women’s Empowerment of Sacramento as the 7th Assembly District’s 2017 Nonprofit of the Year.
Women’s Empowerment has developed and successfully implemented an intensive eight-week program to help homeless women build upon their existing skills to help them re-enter the workforce. The program features a variety of training modules including mock job interviews and confidence building exercises to help their clients establish employment, maintain healthy lifestyles and secure long-term housing for themselves and their family. Since its inception in 2001, Women’s Empowerment has served 1,322 women in the Sacramento region.
“Women’s Empowerment represents the best of Sacramento,” Assemblymember Kevin McCarty. “Their tireless work to improve the well-being of women through counseling, education and other support programs is a model for communities throughout the state to end the cycle of poverty.”
The 2017 California Nonprofits Day was hosted by the California Association of Nonprofits, a statewide alliance of over 10,000 organizations, representing and promoting California’s growing nonprofit sector and working to bring the full power of nonprofits to strengthening communities. State legislators honored nonprofit leaders from all over the state at a ceremony in Sacramento on June 28.
