State Auditor Report on UC Office of the President Makes the Case to End Outsourcing
(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento), Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance released the following statement in response to the California State Auditor report, “The University of California Office of the President: It Has Not Adequately Ensured Compliance With Its Employee Displacement and Services Contract Policies.”
“The California State Auditor’s report revealing UC’s continued disregard of oversight policies regarding contract employees is disappointing and furthers the need for reform at the UC,” said Assemblymember McCarty. “At UCSF, the UC outsourced American jobs overseas displacing 49 career employees and 12 contract employees without adequate justification or follow UC’s own review policy. UC’s continued rebuke for systems of transparency must stop.”
“This year I authored AB 848, which would prohibit the University of California and California State University from outsourcing jobs overseas, preventing public universities from displacing California workers. We must continue to fight for UC students and the employees that serve them. Increasing public trust through transparency and accountability of UC is critical to the success of the institution.”
