Assemblymember McCarty Applauds Multi-Million Dollar Transportation Investment in Sacramento County

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D- Sacramento) today applauded the California Transportation Commission’s decision to award Sacramento County over $110 million in funding to make generational investments in the region’s transportation infrastructure. Financed by the recent passage of SB 1, which provides $5 billion in annual funding for statewide transportation needs, this transportation infrastructure investment will reduce congestion, improve air quality, promote transit and create thousands of jobs in the greater Sacramento region.

Among the projects awarded in Sacramento County, CalTrans will build seven miles of carpool lanes on US 50 from Interstate 5 to just east of Watt Avenue, and expand light rail service from Sunrise Blvd. to Downtown Folsom.

The US 50 HOV lanes project will close a gap in the Sacramento region’s HOV Lane Network and enhance the multi-modal options along the corridor by providing greater operational performance and reliability for all modes of travel. The project extends the existing HOV lanes on US 50 from Watt Avenue, where they terminate, to the I-5 interchange, rehabilitates existing lanes on the highway to extend the service life of the pavement and reduce maintenance expenditures, and makes other several corridor enhancements.

The project also constructs improvements to the SacRT Light Rail system, which will support increasing the frequency of service to downtown Folsom from every 30 minutes to every 15 minutes, and provides context sensitive circulation improvements to enhance multi-modal transportation access on Broadway in the City of Sacramento.
