(SACRAMENTO, CA) - “The Governor’s proposed 2020 budget provides a solid starting point—both in providing record rainy day reserves and making necessary investments for the future in areas like P-16 education, housing/homelessness, and health care.
As Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance, I’m especially optimistic about the new proposals related to increased school funding, teacher training and recruitment, and supporting low-performing schools. I’m very encouraged by the Governor's continued commitment to early education with his phased-in universal preschool proposals, but it's important to note that we need to do much more to fund our California child care system. With regards to higher education, the budget stabilizes the UC/CSU systems, but we’ll look to do more to expand enrollment and college financial aid.”
