Assemblymember Kevin McCarty Announces Grant Funding for Sacramento-Area Parks through Prop 68, the Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program

SACRAMENTO – In 2018, Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento) helped craft the Outdoor Access for All Act of 2018 (Proposition 68) which recently released funding for recipients of the Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program. This month, California State Parks awarded recipients a total of $548.3 million which has funded 112 projects throughout the state – the single-largest investment in state history – to help expand access to parks in undeserved neighborhoods.

Sacramento residents in Assembly District 7 will benefit from these major local park improvements. Here are some local recipients from the program. 

“Every neighborhood should have a functional park for children to play. I’m excited for the projects funded throughout Sacramento and West Sacramento. Children will have a place where they can be a kid while enjoying the outdoors,” said Assemblymember Kevin McCarty.  

  • $700,000 to Alchemist Community Development Corporation to improve Oak Park Art Garden, purchase land and construct a new community garden and community gathering 
  • $3 million to the City of Sacramento Parks and Recreation Department to renovate Del Paso Regional Park’s Harry Renfree Field, construct a new basketball court, multi-use sports field for baseball/softball and soccer and accessible pathways
  • $6 million to Fulton – El Camino Recreation and Park District to create a new community center, dog park, outdoor event patio and renovate the basketball and futsal courts with lighting at Bohemian Park in Arden Arcade.
  • $8 million to West Sacramento for the Westacre Park Expansion Project that will create a new pump track, splash pad, multi-use court, jogging and walking path with lighting, and renovate the skate park, playground and picnic area
  • $3 million to North Highlands Recreation and Park District to expand Sierra Creek Park in the city of Antelope which will create a new playground, picnic area, lot with nearby shade structure and walking path with a creek viewing bridge/platform
  • $7 million to Southgate Recreation and Park District’s Fruitridge Park Community and Aquatic Center to create a new soccer field/ futsal court with lighting, group picnic/BBQ area with shade, pool shade structure and sitting area.
