Assemblymember Kevin McCarty introduces bill to modernize the California Conservation Corps

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento) has introduced AB 2207 – the CA Conservation Corps (CCC) Modernization Act – which would allow the CCC to increase their outreach, broaden their partnerships and update their facilities.

The Conservation Corps program provides young adults from ages 18 to 25 years with education, job training and paid work experience through community service - focusing on improving the environment. Through outreach and partnerships, CCC provides these individuals opportunities to gain experience to become highly qualified employees that contribute to the community and a sustainable future. To that end, the Corps has as an array of mixed-use facilities throughout the State.

“The Corps’ programs help many young adults gain valuable work and educational skills while helping preserve our environment. AB 2207 will grant the Corps the ability to expand its operations – serving more people, providing training opportunities to members, and attracting new partners,” said Assemblymember Kevin McCarty. “It will also help the organization expand its operations even further by giving it the authority to buy and renovate facilities –saving the state money.”

Specifically, the bill would allow the CCC to outreach to more under-represented populations; provide additional priority entry-level positions; and allow CCC to purchase, renovate and update their facilities for their program use.
