“This Final 2022 Budget will change lives for millions of Californians and boost our economic future by making transformational education investments — from early education to TK-12 schools to College.
Our final budget increases TK-12 school funding over 16 percent! This spending plan puts California among the top 15 states in the nation for per pupil funding, after 40 plus years of being at the bottom of the list. This will make a world of difference in our classrooms for students and educators. We funded Universal PreK and After-School programs – both free for all California families. We also expanded Childcare and Career Technical Education. Our higher education budget dramatically expands UC and CSU enrollment and we increased Cal Grant and Middle Class Scholarship eligibility, paving the way for our California Debt-Free College plan.
We’ve made investments to help with homelessness and housing affordability, including funding student housing and adaptive reuse – transitioning unused state buildings into housing. We also appropriated millions for the City and County of Sacramento to tackle homelessness with new shelter facilities.
Lastly, our finalized budget provides significant tax relief to counter the soaring inflation and gas prices. Millions of Californians will benefit as most will receive stimulus payments ranging from $200 to $350 per person, with a maximum rebate of $1,050 per family.
