Assemblymember Kevin McCarty’s Statement on the EDD Building Housing Project

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO – “Today we are turning the page and bringing new opportunities here in the downtown area. The effort to turn three EDD buildings downtown into housing is moving forward with the selection of McCormack Baron Salzar, Inc. as the developer.

The pandemic changed the way we work, with the new normal now being remote work. This has left many buildings downtown, including state buildings, empty and underutilized.

I am proud of the efforts to turn the EDD building into affordable housing. This will help revitalize the downtown area and provide much-needed affordable housing.

Thank you Governor Newsom for your partnership in making adaptive reuse projects like this happen.

With our 2021 Adaptive Reuse legislation (AB 2592) now law, this is just the first of many building conversions.”
