Assemblymember Kevin McCarty and Councilmember Karina Talamantes distribute over 700 backpacks during Annual Backpack Giveaway

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento) and Councilmember Karina Talamantes passed out over 700 backpacks to Sacramento students and their families during the Annual Backpack Giveaway.

This year, Assemblymember McCarty partnered with Councilmember Karina Talamantes to provide students with the necessary school items to help them succeed in school. In addition to distributing backpacks, 10 bikes were raffled away curtesy of Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates, over 100 free haircuts were given, and over 1,000 books.

“With these backpacks, we're lightening the load for families and giving students the tools they need for a successful school year," said Assemblymember Kevin McCarty. "I’m grateful for Councilmember Talamantes' partnership in this drive and thrilled to help families get their children ready for school.”

Every student deserves the necessary tools to be ready for the school year. I'm proud that we are handing out 700 backpacks filled with school supplies and providing free lunch, eyeglass vouchers, haircuts, vaccines, and dental screenings at our event. The backpacks included supplies such as pencils, pens, notebooks, and binders.
