(Sacramento) – Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento), Chair of Budget Sub-Committee #2 on Education Finance, Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount), Budget Committee Chair Phil Ting (D-San Francisco) and the Chairs of the other four budget subcommittees met with the media to discuss the Assembly budget plan developed through more than 70 hearings over the past five months. Assemblymember McCarty says Assembly budget proposal begins to fill the financial holes left by the recession but is a responsible, fiscally prudent plan that includes a robust reserve. “The big pieces of this (education) budget are frankly the bookends…pre-school and higher education,” said Assemblymember McCarty. “We put roughly $600-million to expand early access to education. As far as higher education we focused on access and affordability.” Here’s more from Assemblymember McCarty in this Assembly Access video.
