Assemblymember McCarty Resolves to Honor Inter-Racial Marriage With “Loving Day”

(Sacramento) – California State Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento) believes in the right for two adults to love and marry one another regardless of their race. That’s why he introduced House Resolution 39 on the Floor of California State Assembly. HR 35 designates Monday, June 12th, 2017 as Loving Day. Mildred and Richard Loving were a married interracial couple. The Loving’s marriage was not recognized in their home state of Virginia. The Lovings took their fight for their marriage to be recognized to the United States Supreme Court. In 1967, SCOTUS ruled that interracial marriage be recognized in all 50 states.
