(Sacramento).- The pressure is mounting on the White House and the President to protect the five year old immigration program known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). The program allows undocumented immigrants who entered the country as minors to receive a two year period of deferred action from deportation and makes them eligible for a work permit. Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento) says this is a non-partisan issue. Republicans, Democrats and businesses all support and are aware of the benefits of the DACA program. Nearly 800,000 young people know as “Dreamers” have benefited from this program around the United States, over 200,000 of them are in California. It would be inhumane and bad for our economy to deport these kids adds McCarty. More on this Assembly Access video. http://www.asmdc.org/mccarty
