Assemblymember McCarty’s Legislation Attacks the Opioid Epidemic

(Sacramento) - Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento) spoke about the true cost of the opioid epidemic while introducing legislation to combat the crisis. “We have heard about the human toll of this—we know that there are too many lives lost, over 2,000 overdoses every year in California,” Assemblymember McCarty said. “Some of us know people in our own communities that face addiction. So we need hope for individuals, hope for families and hope for California to tackle this issue.” He is authoring two bills – one that would require physicians to take opioid addiction training and another that would fund opioid addiction treatment (AB 2487 and AB 2486 respectively).
